Certificate in the Advanced
Course of Study

United Methodist students who have completed the five-year Course of Study may continue by taking seminary courses at MTSO in the Certificate in the Advanced Course of Study (ACOS) program.

Unlike the five-year Course of Study program, students are admitted to the ACOS certificate program at MTSO through regular admission procedures, and take graduate-level courses that are recorded on an official transcript.

Completion of 32 graduate-level credit hours is required for the Certificate in the Advanced Course of Study. Of these, 27 hours will be comprised of Basic Graduate Theological Studies as outlined in The United Methodist Book of Discipline and described below. The required courses are available on a rotating basis on weekends during the regular semester terms and in two-week intensive formats during J-term and the two summer terms.
