Certificate in Basic Theological Education (Lay Certificate Program)
This certificate program is intended for students who are interested in enhancing a basic understanding of their faith. To earn this certificate, a student must successfully complete four graduate courses at MTSO, including:
• Any three of the following introductory courses:
1. HB110, Introduction to the Hebrew Bible
2. NT110, Introduction to the New Testament
3. CH125, Church History I
4. CT149, Introduction to Theology
5. CE101, Introduction to Christian Ethics
• Students also must take one practical theology division course at the introductory level. Possibilities include:
1. ED145, Church’s Educational Ministry
2. CL100, Introduction to Church Leadership
3. PC100, Foundations for Pastoral Care
4. WM100, Introduction to Worship and Music
Please see the course listings in the catalog for a complete description of each of these courses. These courses carry graduate-level credit and will be recorded on an official transcript. They are offered on a rotating basis so that some courses are available at least once in the evening and once during the day during each academic year.
