Financial Assistance Eligibility

Financial assistance is awarded when a student has been accepted into one of the school's degree programs, completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application and other supporting documents, demonstrated financial need and plans to enroll as a half-time student. You must complete the MTSO Financial Assistance Application and the FAFSA. The links are below to complete those forms. The FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  To sign the FAFSA you can use your FAFSA pin number.  If you do not have one or do not remember it you can request one at www.pin.ed.gov.  Our FAFSA school code is G03075.

Non-degree and occasional students and those auditing courses are not eligible for financial assistance. All students must make satisfactory academic progress to continue receiving aid.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

Methodist Theological School in Ohio is required by Federal regulations to monitor the academic progress of students who apply for and/or receive federal financial aid. To be eligible for financial aid, students are required to maintain satisfactory progress toward a degree. The requirements for maintaining progress are listed below. If students do not meet the minimum standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress they will be placed on SAP probation. Students will be eligible to receive aid for the next semester of enrollment, but they must meet the SAP requirements during that semester to remain eligible for consecutive semesters.

Earned Hours
All students must earn 67% of their total hours attempted. The hours attempted will be determined from the last day to drop a class for each term enrolled. The hours will be reviewed after each academic year.

GPA Requirement
Students must achieve a 2.5 cumulative grade average upon the completion of each academic year to meet this requirement.

Federal Refund Policy
The federal government has a mandated “Return of Title IV Funds” policy.  This policy affects those students who have withdrawn from all classes and receive federal financial aid.  Students, who receive federal financial aid, including Federal Subsidized Stafford Loans and Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, should contact the Office of Financial Aid before withdrawing from classes.  Withdrawing under this policy most likely will result in a balance being owed to Methodist Theological School in Ohio.  If student loans have been borrowed while in attendance at MTSO exit counseling would also be required.

Withdrawal Date
A)    The date the student notifies the institution in writing of his/her intent to withdraw.
B)    Unofficial withdrawals encompasses all other withdrawals where official notification is not provided to the school. This includes students who have not passed at least one of their classes at the end of the semester.  The withdrawal date is the midpoint of the payment period or period of enrollment, or the last date of an academically related activity that the student participated in. Please note that withdrawing from the school will also affect a student’s Satisfactory Academic Progress and may impact future federal financial aid eligibility.
