SEPT. 23 AND 24

Gregory Cuéllar delivers Williams Institute Lectures

Gregory Cuéllar, professor in the Ruth A. Campbell Chair of Biblical Studies at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, will deliver MTSO’s Williams Institute Lectures Sept. 23 and 24.

Cuéllar’s first lecture, “Lamentations 1: Weaponizing Exile on Confiscated Bodies,” will take place at 7 p.m. Eastern Sept. 23. It will piece together the postcolonial traumatic layers of exile in Lamentations 1.

The second lecture, “Lamentations 2: Macabre Spectacles of Liquidated Bodies,” begins at 10 a.m. Eastern Sept. 24. In it, Cuéllar will evaluate the postcolonial traumatic response to imperial violence in Lamentations 2.

The lectures are open to all, no registration required. While MTSO events are best experienced live and in person, the Williams Institute also will be streamed live. More details are here.

Save the Date

Why Alumni Day is moving to March

Dunn Dining Hall, awaiting its makeover

Mark your calendars for MTSO’s annual Alumni Day, March 2, 2026. Though Alumni Day is typically held in the fall, it was shifted to spring due to renovations in Dunn Dining Hall.

Damage from the March 2024 tornado that struck campus revealed asbestos in the ceiling that hadn’t been found during past asbestos remediation efforts. While the remediation was completed quickly, replacing the dining hall’s uniquely contoured ceiling has proven to be a more time-consuming process.

Alumni Day will take place the day before the Schooler Institute on Preaching, scheduled for March 3 and 4 and led by HyeRan Kim-Cragg, principal of Emmanuel College of Victoria University at the University of Toronto.

We’ll share more details about Alumni Day in future editions of Campus View. Hope to see you there.
