LAND STEWARDSHIP INITIATIVE

MTSO receives major grant for wetland restoration

MTSO has received a $400,000 grant through the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to revert an engineered campus pond back to natural wetlands. The goal of the project is to reduce water pollution in Ohio and beyond.

Draining the pond and restoring a stretch of Weiser Run stream will slow water flow, allowing pollutants to drop out of the water before they get to the Olentangy River, and eventually the Gulf of Mexico. “This project confirms the value of MTSO's ecological commitments and initiatives,” said Leigh Precise, chief operating officer at MTSO.

64TH COMMENCEMENT

Congratulations to the class of 2026

As a rainy morning gave way to a sunny afternoon, MTSO awarded 41 graduate degrees at its 64th commencement May 23.

MTSO alum and trustee Emanuel Cleaver III, senior pastor of St. James United Methodist Church in Kansas City, energized the graduates and guests with a commencement address inspired by Matthew Chapter 10.

“As you go out into this world among wolves, things will not always go your way,” Cleaver said. “But trust that if the Lord sent you, arrangements have been made. There may be times when we have more work than workers, but trust that arrangements have been made. When it seems like there's no progress and you're standing still, please know arrangements have been made.”
