MTSO offers farm and food apprenticeships

Apprentices get stipends, housing and farm-to-table experience

Methodist Theological School in Ohio is offering four apprenticeships in farm and food. Apprentices will work directly with experts in organic farming and farm-to-table culinary service on the scenic 80-acre campus of a graduate seminary near Columbus. They will report to the manager and assistant manager of farm and food.

  • Apprentices will help maintain day-to-day operations of both the campus farm and dining facility of MTSO.
  • Apprentices will be supplied with living quarters and farmer food.
  • A weekly stipend of $125 will be paid to each apprentice, with an extra $25 per week bonus given to each at the end of the six-month contracted apprenticeship (28 weeks= $700).
  • Apprentices will sign a contract from March 1-Oct. 1.
  • Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: weeding, watering, harvesting, planting, cooking, cleaning, dish washing, selling at weekly farmers' markets and assisting with community-supported agriculture distribution.
  • Apprentices can expect to work 45-55 hours per week, including weekends and evening dinner service.
