The Great Lakes Course of Study

In consultation with the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, MTSO and Garrett Seminary are collaborating to provide the Great Lakes Course of Study, serving those who seek to become licensed local pastors.

Within the United Methodist Church, ordination as an elder or deacon requires master’s-level education and a bachelor’s degree. The denomination’s Course of Study offers a non-degree licensure program empowering clergy members of an annual conference whose licenses are contingent upon appointment to specific local congregations to serve within the United Methodist Church.

The Great Lakes Course of Study creates a dynamic path to ministry – offered in both English and Spanish, fully online – and dramatically increase the support its students can be offered.
